Ōrewa student wins boxing title with knockout performance

Julius Chivell

Ōrewa College student Julius Chivell has claimed the Waikato Cadet Boxing Belt with a lightning-fast victory, winning his final bout with a technical knockout in under 20 seconds.

The Year 10 student took out the 55kg division at the Nabbys Boxing Event in Hamilton in March, impressing spectators and officials with his speed and precision in the ring.

Representing Bunker Boxing, Julius showed strong control and accuracy throughout the tournament.

Julius credits much of his success to his coach Nikolas Charalampous and the encouragement he has received from Ōrewa College’s physical education department, particularly teacher Asher Akroyd.

“I’m excited to continue making my way to the top,” Julius said.

He  now has his sights set on the upcoming Golden Gloves tournament in Tauranga this month.

The victory makes Julius a contender to watch in future national competitions.
